Cataract Operation

Cataract Surgery Program in Bangladesh

Cataract is the leading cause of avoidable blindness in Bangladesh, especially affecting rural communities. Poverty, lack of awareness, and limited access to specialized healthcare prevent timely treatment, causing loss of productivity and independence.

Our Goal

To restore sight to 100 cataract patients, reducing avoidable blindness and improving quality of life.

How It Works

  • Community Screening: Five outreach camps to identify eligible patients.
  • Pre-Operative Care: Comprehensive assessments to ensure safe surgeries.
  • Surgical Intervention: Free cataract surgeries using SICS or phacoemulsification techniques.
  • Post-Operative Care: Follow-up visits, medication, and guidance for eye health.
  • Community Awareness: Education on eye care, prevention, and timely treatment.

Beneficiaries

  • Direct: 100 individuals diagnosed with cataract, prioritizing children, the elderly, and earnable members from economically disadvantaged families.
  • Indirect: Approximately 300–400 family members benefiting from restored productivity and reduced dependency.

Expected Outcomes

  • Sight restored for 100 individuals, improving independence and productivity.
  • Increased community awareness of cataract and preventive eye care.
  • Strengthened community health structures through trained local health workers.
